UX Design / Research / Visual Design / Interactive Design / User Testing / May 2021

This was a project created during my UX Design Certification program. It is a wedding venue scheduling tool that can be used by the venue or the end user (event organizer/bride/etc). Designed to make the scheduling of events at a specific venue easy to do, it keeps both the venue and user organized. The site allows users to create and build their event schedule from start to finish using their specific venue attributes. The schedule can be easily shared with any person involved in the event from vendors to the participants to the invitees.

TOOLS USED: Abode XD, Figma, Pen & Paper

USER & RESEARCH

RESEARCH CONDUCTED & FINDINGS:

User research followed by interviews were conducted in order to get real feedback, which was then developed into user personas. Research revealed that there was not one single tool/app/website to help them organize the schedule of their event, especially at their specific venue; users felt frustrated and at a loss that their time was wasted using several different tools/apps to get organized.

PERSONAS

Personas Wed Venue.png

TYPICAL USER:

The typical user is between 20-50 years old. Busy professionals of all genders and backgrounds who want a tool to help organize their event schedule easily.

PAIN POINTS

INSIGHTS

Existence of 1 tool to create & organize an event schedule

Inability to share event quickly & easily

Ability to change event during planning process

Create website that's function is to create, organize, & edit event schedule specific to the venue location

Allow user ability to add people involved in the wedding (and with their contact info), along with a share button

Make each hour/event piece to be editable and changeable throughout the entire planning process

IDEATION

Approached user needs by creating a site that allowed scheduling, organizing, sharing, and ability to incorporate venue specific photos. The ability to add people to each part of the event was key to ensure users could share easily with those involved, while staying organized in knowing who was a part of each event part. Giving users both a simple and detailed view of their schedule allows for quick access and easy sharing abilities.

FINDINGS

UPDATES

UNMODERATED, REMOTE

5 people, ages 20-50, all genders, High School-PhD educated

Users desired ability to view available dates of each venue location. It was also discovered that it the 2 views of the schedule (detailed and simple) wasn't necessary. Furthermore, it was preferred to have the option view and edit the schedule on same page, rather than view 2 different kinds of views. in the same place.

HI-FI PROTOTYPE

Brought in vibrant, energetic colors to liven up the page. Enhanced most items with the ability to share. Further enhanced the sharing capabilities by adding Instagram, Facebook, Text, Email, Twitter, as well as the ability to simply copy the link.

ACCESSIBILITY

  • Colorblindness: Contrasting white, black, and hot pink used and checked by WCAG and AAA

  • Vision Impaired: all website content XL. Pictures enhanced with bigger view when clicked.

TAKEAWAYS

WHAT I LEARNED

  • Creating a methodical process when prototyping proved to be more efficient.

  • Utilizing Figma community for templates is efficient and great for aiding in creation of new ideas.

IMPACT

This website fills a true hole in the wedding and event industry. There isn't one tool that both user and event venue can use for building out the entire schedule of an event/wedding.

If I were to take this project further, I'd like to do more testing with event coordinators and venue operators and continue to iterate.
